El Palacio Exterior El Palacio Exterior View

Nestled in the lush and beautiful Ruidoso River Valley in the foothills of the Sacramento Mountains is El Palacio Sanchez. Located two miles from Hondo, New Mexico and approximately 25 miles from Ruidoso, the Palacio is conveniently located in an elite area of very nice homes and acreage. The Palacio is a wonderful Ranch with many attributes: Beautiful custom home, large hay and livestock barn, Rio Ruidoso river frontage, vehicular access to the far reaches of the ranch, amazing views, lush flower garden and, above all, peace and tranquility. El Palacio contains a total of 490 acres including approximately 5 acres of river bottom land along the Rio Ruidoso….the noisy water. What a splendid stretch of the river! Brown and Rainbow Trout are native to the Rio Ruidoso and are plentiful in this part of the manicured river, perfect for Fly Fishing! On the western boundary of the river frontage is a park like setting with towering Cottonwoods and the wonderful sound of moving water!

El Palacio Exterior

Most of the land on the Palacio is atop the 6,000 foot mountains to the south of the home. Formerly a challenge to access, this land is now readily accessible via the expertly developed road to the top of the hill. Once on top of the hill the land is rolling hilltop with a variety of native grasses including Gramma grass and Sacatone. Trees include Pinon, Alligator Bark Juniper, Cedar and Ponderosa Pine. Wildlife include Elk, Mule Deer, Barbary Sheep and Turkey. And, the views are simply spectacular! To the north lye the Capitan Mountains, the only mountain range in the United States running east and west! And the entire range of the Capitans are viewable from atop the Palacio-from Capitan and Sunset Peaks on the east to Capitan Gap on the west, these views are breathtaking. And, to the west lye the White Mountains, prominently monumented by Sierra Blanca, and the Sacramento Mountains. Like the Capitans, the views to the west include all of the White Mountains and the Sacramento Mountains. No less spectacular are the views of the famous and beautiful Ruidoso Valley and the Hondo Valley. From this vantage point one can see a long stretch of these valleys, noting the intricate patch work of irrigated pastures, and watching the Rio Ruidoso meet the Rio Bonito and turn into the Rio Hondo-breathtaking!

The improvements on the Palacio include one very nice, custom built, no expense spared home surrounded by an adobe wall resulting in a true southwestern environment. The home is approximately 3,848 square feet of improvements, consisting of approximately 2,408 square feet on the first floor and approximately 1,440 square feet on the mezzanine level. Use of the mezzanine concept provides 20 foot plus ceilings in the center of the living area with 10 foot ceilings throughout the entirety of the first floor living area. The Master Suite is located on the first floor and boasts a huge walk in closet and a spacious Master Bath. The Master Bath includes a large marble steam shower, dual vanities with marble counter tops, and a full size jetted tub. Also on the first floor is an office space with custom cabinetry matching the custom cabinetry in the spacious, gourmet kitchen.

This kitchen features not only custom, hand-made cabinetry, but also includes top of the line Viking appliances. The Viking gas range is a chef’s dream come true and is complimented by a Viking oven, and a Viking refrigerator/freezer with cabinetry finish. A Viking microwave rounds out the top shelf appliances in this gourmet kitchen. 10 foot ceilings provide ample room for over hanging cookware above the kitchen island with bar sink and wine refrigerator. This kitchen also features large windows on the east and south sides resulting in an abundance of natural light which highlights the beauty of this fabulous kitchen. And, this kitchen also features a functioning 1880’s vintage steam radiator heater! The kitchen is an open concept and is open to all of the first floor living area and dining area.

In the first floor living area there is a massive native rock fireplace with a native Black Walnut mantle. This fireplace includes a very utilitarian cooking arm for cast iron cook pots! This beautiful home is heated by radiant heat in a concrete floor which provides superior winter time comfort! All copper construction means years of reliable, functional, cost-effective and efficient heating. The home is cooled by large evaporative coolers whose exposed duct work compliment the rustic, southwestern charm of the home. Also featured are massive beams and trusses that came from an old barn structure that capture the ambiance of this beautiful living area.

Upper Balcony Front Porch Parking Garage and Grounds

Outside the Palacio are wrap around porches on both the ground level and the mezzanine level providing superb views of the surrounding mountains and the Rio Ruidoso. Area native Corona stone is used on the first floor porches and compliments the southwestern feel of the Palacio. And, there is the Lookout Tower-a tall, imposing structure that affords spectacular views of the valley below!

There is also a two car garage with custom built storage closets for hunting, fishing and other sporting gear. West of the garage structure is one very impressive two story barn. Each floor of the barn is approximately 1,716 square feet and the ground floor includes a half bath. Also included are an aviary, and four horse stalls with interior and exterior access. A tack room is adjacent to the horse stalls. Upstairs is one massive, open area with hay doors on the east end and a cedar lined closet. This could be one large game room or trophy room-lots of possibilities.

All of these attributes combine into one very special, very comfortable and impressive residence and ranch. As diligently as we have tried to accurately describe the Palacio, a visit for your own viewing will yield the best description available. Come and see this magnificent place for yourself and imagine calling it home. It will call to you. Priced a $1,500,000.00 it would be impossible to duplicate for that money.
